Show Stopper! Ankara Appreciation Week! Mccall's 8203!

Hello and happy Sunday to you all and welcome to my blog! Today I have a special sewing make AND collaboration to share with you in honor of Ankara Appreciation Week! So if you have not heard, Juliet Uzor and Lena King on Instagram, launched Ankara Appreciation week for the first time last year, and because they received such an overwhelming response, they decided to do it again this year! For today’s make, I partnered with Rochelle of Rochelle.handmade.designs on YouTube (you can find her channel by clicking here), and we came together to make a special garment for today’s theme which is “Showstopper!” The funny thing about this collaboration is that we only knew about the dates of the appreciation week and we had no clue that each day of the appreciation would have a different theme. Rochelle and I connected to do this collaboration because she watched my last haul, which was tilted “Happy Mail” and she noticed that I purchased four Ankara prints, and she messaged me to let me know she had the same fabric in her stash, so we decided to collab and make a special garment out of the same fabric for this occasion! So for this project I made my jumpsuit by using McCall's 8203! You can visit my YouTube channel by clicking here to see the full details in video! I also have a pattern review below the pictures! Thanks for stopping by!!

Pattern Review

Pattern Name: I made McCall’s 8203, view A, which is a romper, however, I did not want a romper so I used the full length of the pattern pieces to make the garment into a full jumpsuit that is shown in views B and C! Pattern Type: McCall’s Pattern Cost: $1.99 on sale Pattern Description: Misses’ romper, jumpsuits, and sash with A/B, C and D cup sizes and I cut a D cup. Skill Level: Easy, however, there is a lot of things going on here and I do not feel like it would be easy for a beginner. Number of Pattern Pieces: 18, and I used 12 Recommended Fabric: Poplin, cotton blends, denim, challis Pattern Sizing: 6 - 24 Size that I Cut: 18 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes! Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! No issues at all What did you particularly like about the pattern? I was drawn to this pattern because of the ruffles that are attached to the entire neckline; from front to back! I think that adds such a voluminous detail to the garment and makes it extra fancy in my opinion. I also like the square neckline, I like the gathers at the shoulders on the sleeves, the gathers at the sleeve band, the darts on the back of the bodice and the front of the bodice for shaping, the pockets and the gathers on the front of the pants. What did you particularly dislike about the pattern?: The only thing that I disliked about the pattern is that on the front cover, it shows the model’s jumpsuit touching her ankles so that it has the appearance of normal length pants. I measured the longest pattern piece for the pants and it measured shorter than my legs, so I added an addition four inches. Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made? I added four inches to the leg pattern pieces and I also added 8 inches to the sash. Pattern Alterations that are suggested: Check your leg measurements if making the jumpsuit to make sure the bottom lands where you want it to land. Would I sew it again? Yes Did you do anything different/special to make this project? No Would you recommend it to others? Yes! Fabric Used: 100% Cotton Ankara Fabric Fabric Purchased: Afriqueclothingstore on Esty Reason for Making it: The reason why I made this particular pattern and view is because I wanted to change up what I have been making because I have been making a lot of dresses for my Fruity Fabric Collection series, and because I feel most comfortable in dresses but I don’t want everything to look identical or of the same style in my wardrobe. I also picked this because of the ruffles from front to back! Accessories: Chandelierz Earrings
