My DIY Birthday Dress!
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!! Today I am sharing my memade birthday dress!
So my birthday is Monday and I am one that always want something new to wear on my birthday to celebrate another chapter of life, not that it’s necessary, but it’s something that makes me feel good so since I have been sewing, I have been making my birthday outfits!
For this year, I decided to make McCall’s 8089, view B, which is the most detailed view within this pattern!! I used this multicolored Ankara fabric that I absolutely love and I used almost a whole six yards of it to create this look (45" wide). There are so many things that I like about this dress!!! I have a detailed pattern review below the pictures and I also have a full detailed pattern review on my YouTube channel with lots of pictures and video clips for your viewing purposes!! You can watch the video by clicking here!! Thank you for stopping by to see what I came up with to make birthday dress!!!

Pattern Number: McCall’s 8089, View B
Pattern Description: Misses’ Dresses with elastic waist and has sleeve and skirt ruffle variations and the bodice also has an option of having a tie or a ruffle. Sewing Skill Level: Easy… It is easy but very time consuming.
Notions Needed: 2 7/8 yards of ¼ inch elastic and view B needs one package of ½ inch single fold bias tape
Pattern Sizing: 6-22
Size that I Cut: 18
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were easy to follow for the most part, but they were not very clear for the view that I sewed, (view B), when it came to layering everything in the front to sew the ruffle down.
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I liked the flounce, the gathered tiers and the bodice options; I like the different sleeve options and I also like how the sleeve uses bias tape to make the gathers on the sleeve. But in general, I like the style of the dress overall. What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? The unclear instructions with the bodice flounce for view B. I also didn’t like that on one of the tiers, the raw edge was exposed because you had to sew the tier on the fabric with both right sides facing up. Fabric Used: Ankara African Print- 100% Cotton
Purchased: Afriqueclothing Store on Esty
Alterations or changes: None
Any modification recommendations: No
Would you recommend it to others? Yes, but if you are a beginner, I would probably stick to the bodice of A or C.
