McCall's 8146 - Holiday Family Gathering/Party

Hello everyone and HAPPY Sunday! I hope everyone has had a great week and I expect greatness for this week as we look forward to the holidays!!! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog! You can watch the full review by clicking here! Today is the fifth episode of the Virtual MeMade Holiday Fashion Show series!!! #mmholidayfashionshow Today’s theme is the Family Holiday Party or Gathering and this is a theme that is very common to many of you who celebrate the holidays! This theme is in collaboration with the beautiful Tea of Crumpets Tea and Sewing! Tea is an advanced sewer who had a wonderful youtube channel with great content and her garments always looks like perfection! Tea delivers tutorials, pattern and fabric hauls, pattern and fabric pairings and much more, so if you are not already subscribed to her channel, please head over to check out her look for today’s theme and subscribe!! So let’s get into the main portions of this blog post, which is the theme and my make.

For my Family Holiday Gathering look, I made McCall’s 8146 along with a pencil maxi skirt to give you two looks! I picked the top because although this type of party is semi-casual, my personality never lets me be basic when it comes to my clothes, and I felt that with this top that has statement sleeves, gold foiled holly prints and a peplum, would be the perfect touch to wear because it’s a top that is dressy, but I can dress it down with Jeans. I created a second look, which is a straight pencil skirt! This gold four way stretch pencil skirt also prevents the look from being over the top dressy but it still gives the look a little more kick than just wearing the top with jeans! Below you will find pictures and pattern review for my makes! You can also head over to my Youtube channel and watch the full review that has more details and visuals by clicking here! Pattern Review

Pattern Number: McCall’s 8146, also known as MyrtelMcCall’s Pattern Description: Misses’ and women’s peplum wrap top with cowl sleeve variations! View: I made view B

FABRIC Recommendations: Charmeuse, Crepes, Challis, Lawn Sewing Skill Level: Average, and I agree… Pattern Pieces: I used nine pattern pieces to make this top. The pattern pieces that I used were the front, back, ties, front flounce, back flounce, sleeves, sleeve head, front facing, back facing! Notions Needed: Thread, one ½ button, ⅜ yard of one inch grosgrain ribbon and one package of ¼ inch twill tape.

Pattern Sizing: 8-32

Size that I Cut: I cut a size 20

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, however there is an error within the placement of the ties to close the top. To find out more information on this, please watch the review by clicking here! What did you particularly like about the pattern? I like the drama of the sleeves, I like the rouching at the bottom of the sleeve and I love the peplum! What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? Nothing Did I learn any new Techniques:No Did I have a first time experience: Yes, this was my first time constructing a cowl sleeve and it was also my first time putting SIX rows of GATHERS on each sleeve!!! Fabric Used: I used this beautiful white, 100% cotton with gold foiled holly printed on it!!! For my skirt, I used this bold four way stretch gold pleather!

Purchased: I purchased my top fabric from Hobby Lobby and I purchased my skirt fabric from JoAnn Fabrics! And my skirt is self drafted. Buttons Used: I used the same button on my top that I used on my Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving look because I had more left and the gold matched perfectly!!

Alterations or changes: No, but I plan to add a tie into the left side seam that connect the front and back bodice so that my top will close properly. Any modification recommendations: I recommend that you do the same because if you do it the way the pattern reads, you will end up doing it my way in the end. Would you recommend it to others? Yes! Availability: This pattern came out in 2021 so it is still available in the drawers and purchase this and you can also purchase this online at the somethingdelightful website.

Accessories: Earrings/Necklace: I am wearing a gold necklace to compliment the gold holly that is printed on my fabric and the earrings are ornament earrings that I have had for years!
