Hello and welcome back! I am so excited to share this dress that I made because of the story behind it! My family and I recently came back from vacation. Every year we all take a cruise, and on the cruise we all have the same dining time so that we can sit and talk to each other about our experiences either on or off the ship.
We also love to dress up for the elegant dress nights and we decided to wear the same color for one of the nights so that we can take a matching group picture!
This year, the color was yellow (see the picture below).
I purchased this fabric from Joan Fabrics after passing it up a few times. I really love the print but I passed it up initially because it was only 45 inches wide and I prefer to work with 58 inches.
After continuously looking for different fabrics and not being satisfied, I went back to the store to get this and I love it.
I used Vogue 9401, View B, to make this dress (I also made a matching fabric belt). I wanted to make something that was nice and had width so that I did not have to make alterations (due to pregnancy). I had the pattern at my house already from a previous pattern haul and I immediately thought of it when I began to think about what type of dress I wanted to make. You can find the pattern here.
Overall, I really love the look and I was so excited to see how it turned out.
Below you will find additional pictures including the group picture that we took and a pattern review. You can also watch my pattern view on my YouTube channel by clicking here!

Pattern Number: Vogue 9104
Misses' Gathered Maxi Dress
Pattern Sizing: 6-22
Size That I Cut: 20 (But should have cut a 16)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I am pregnant, so I love the fact that this dress is already wide and flows and it did not need to be altered for me to fit the dress. I also like it because it is simple look but yet elegant.
Fabric Used: A yellow floral cotton linen mix
Where was the Fabric Purchased? JoAnn Fabrics
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut the size too big because of how the instructions were laid out. Based off of the instructions, I would have cut a size 6 when I normally cut a size 16 or 18. I was not comfortable with that so I cut a size bigger than what I normally cut (size 20) and it was extremely big under my arms.
I didn’t want to give up on it so I took in three inches under each arms to make it fit properly.
Would you sew it again? Yes, but only for a special occasion and in the right size.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes
