Hello Everyone! We returned from vacation this week and we had a wonderful time! We were gone 10 days and relaxed at home on the 11th day before heading back to work. Before we left, I managed to make several outfits. I normally also make all of my dinner outfits for vacation but because of time, I was only able to make two, refashion one dress that I had already made and wore other dresses that I had already made.
With that being said, this blog post features the most relaxed garment that was for vacation.
I made the shorts below using Simplicity 8651, view A (you can find it here).
This pattern is considered easy-to- sew and it truly is! I am somewhat drawn to easy- to- sew patterns because my style is very simple, however, I feel that the shorts are very cute and comfortable!!
The only challenge that may come with this for a beginner would be the button holes to enter the drawstring.
If you look very close, you can see the button holes towards the center on each side of the short legs on the picture below.
After making the button holes, I decided to not use the drawstring because it wasn't giving me the look that I was going for. Had I known that I wasn't going to like the drawstring, the process of making this and eliminating that part would have gone even faster.
The model on the pattern styled her shorts by sitting them on her natural waist. I decided against that and wore mine as more of a "high waisted" short.
It has been years since I have "tucked" my pants but I really liked the look.
I made the shorts out of a comfortable stretch denim that I got on sale at Joan Fabrics.
In sewing, you will have fails and you will have projects that you are extremely happy with and proud of. I have to say that this is a garment that I am very happy with and I do plan to sew about five more by next summer for my wardrobe.
