Hello and welcome back!! I know I have been absent on the blog for a while but I have been super duper busy and had little time to sew.
Even though I have only had very little time to sew, I have managed to make a few outfits and crafty items that I will share with you all very soon!
With that being said, today's blog post is my PINK outfit that I made for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
I always find an excuse to either make or purchase a new outfit due to a special occasion. Although we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness throughout the month of October, my church had a special service dedicated to it and this is the outfit that I made.
I made this outfit using Simplicity's New Look 6525 and pink Interlock fabric from Joan Fabrics. This pattern has five different options to make this dress and three of the options included the ruffles at the bottom. Please see below.
If you haven't noticed, I keep it pretty simple with the clothes that I make and buy, but with this dress being more of a loose fit and a solid pink color, I wanted something added to it to make it stand out a little..... I felt that the option of using the ruffles would do the trick!
As you can see in the picture above, I added darts to the back of my dress at the neck line.
I normally cut a size 16 but I cut a size 18 to make sure that I had the loose fit.
The dress turned out to be more of a loose fit than I anticipated and I had to add the darts in the back to bring my neckline back to a normal fit....
If I had cut a size 16 like I normally do, I still would have had to add the darts because the dress was falling of my shoulders.
It total, I pulled in one inch for each dart to make the fit better.
I made a bell sleeve for the dress. The pattern gave an option to make a bell sleeve with a slit but I didn't want the split look. Instead, I made this which was very similar to the suggested sleeve.
Overall, I really like how the dressed turned out. It was very comfortable and appropriate for the occasion. Please see below for more pics and a pattern review.
