Hello and happy Labor Day to you!
My church announced that we were going to have a Warfare service and they wanted everyone who was willing to dress in some type of camouflage. Now of course this was not required in any way shape or form nor does the camouflage print have any effect on the service, but it was something fun to do together.
With that being said, I did not have any camouflage clothes that I could fit (LOL), but I remembered that I had 2.5 yards of fabric that I had purchased from Walmart a long time ago.
I didn’t want to make a t-shirt or leggings so I thought about what I could make.
I went to my pattern stash and I had Simplicity 8377 on top. Simplicity 8377 is a pattern for a cardigans with variations and multiple pieces for design hacking. I purchased the pattern to make the long version of the cardigan and that is exactly what I did.
This pattern had very few pieces and was easy to put together.
I made this a little big for my normal size because I didn’t look at the finished measurements (not sure if it was even printed on the pattern). I was ok with the larger size because it didn’t look bad.
The only changes that I made was adding ruching to the sleeves. I added this feature to give it a feminine touch.
The only thing that I did not like about how it turned out was how the fabric draped at the bottom. It seemed as though the fabric was probably too heavy and it caused it to flap open at the slits. I could have fixed this by closing the slits off at the seams but I preferred the slits for this look. I’m thinking a jersey knit would have been better.
